Support For Every Step

Common questions about counseling and what to expect.

Can I book a session online?

Scheduling is simple—book an available slot online, then you will receive an intake packet to complete electronically before your first session.

What happens during my first session?

The first session is considered an intake. I will have reviewed your packet before then. We will get to know each other and discuss more about what is bringing you to counseling. If it feels like we are a good fit, we will consider scheduling and goals for going forward.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, depending. I want to ensure you are getting the full value of the service, and telehealth may impede my ability to provide that. We can weigh the pros and cons of this approach in person, then decide what is best for you.

Can I use my insurance?

Reimbursement may be offered per the terms of your policy if you are paying out of pocket for a therapy service that would otherwise be covered. While I do not work directly with insurance providers at this time, I can provide a superbill for services rendered that would allow you to be reimbursed. Please bring this up during the intake session so that we can plan accordingly. I can also accept HSA's and FSA's.

What is your philosophy for working with teens?

I want to offer teens the same opportunity that adults are given — to privately explore what feels important to them. I like to meet with parents for at least one session beforehand to gain an understanding of family values and hopes for counseling, before working with their teens confidentially. Some parents have reported positive changes in their children just from meeting with me about parenting strategies.

What is your philosophy for working with couples?

I am fair-minded about problem solving, and ensure that both partners genuinely feel the balance of our work. I take my time to assess the relational issues before identifying opportunities for change, and I use an emotionally-focused approach to accomplish this.

Couple therapy usually involves nuanced emotional moments and deep conversation. For couples whose circumstances and finances allow, I recommend the 90 minute sessions. Longer sessions are ultimately a chance to go farther faster. I do work with couples for 45 minutes sessions as well, keeping emotional sensitivity and the time factor in mind.
